1448766 Drying paper webs J M VOITH GmbH 8 May 1974 [10 May 1973 16 Nov 1973] 20328/74 Heading F4G A web drier part for a paper-making machine comprises at least two suction drying cylinders 6, 7 and at least one contact drying cylinder 10, the former cylinder being in use within a guided endless support belt 5 with the belt 5 interposed between the cylinder(s) 6, 7 and the web 1 and the latter being in use outside the loop of the belt 5 and in direct contact with the web 1. A suction drying cylinder precedes a contact drying cylinder in the direction of web travel. As shown the suction drying cylinders 6, 7 are each provided with a hot air blowing hood 11, 12 which may be split up into sections with facilities for circulating air continuously through a section or passing air from one section to the next in the direction from the web exit end of the hood towards the web input end of the hood (Fig. 3, not shown). The formed web 1 passes into the drier part over a store roll 3 and a suction roller 4 and is guided and held at its leading end by a belt 15 which is, when the web 1 is running properly through the drier part deflected so as to ride on a portion of the rollers or the edge of the support belt (Fig. 2, not shown). A spring mounted, fluid urged suction roller 13 is mounted adjacent the position at which the web 1 leaves the contact drying cylinder 10.
