Abstract

1411778 Drying of webs BELOIT CORP 24 Nov 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 54437/72 Heading F4G The felt guide rollers 57-60 (Fig. 2) and 19- 23 (Fig 3) are positioned so as to reduce the fluttering of the paper web W as it moves around the heated dryer drums 50-55 and 12- 17, the web W either being supported (Fig 2) against a belt F1 or F2 as it approaches each of each of guide rollers 57-60 but being merely close to the other felt as it leaves each of the guide rollers, or the web W being always supported (Fig. 3) against one or other of felts 10, 11 as it approaches and leaves each of the guide rollers 19-23. The guide rollers are perforated and provided with a fixed baffle 57a-60a, and 19a-23a so that air supplied under pressure passes through the porous or foraminous belts to ensure separation of the web from each felt, as well as drying of the felts. The air passes out of the ends of the pockets 63-66, and 25-29, but maintains a slight overpressure in them. The felts may be woven cotton, or open woven plastics or wire.
