Abstract

1448251 Supercharger compressors WALLACE-MURRAY CORP 14 Sept 1973 43327/73 Heading F1C A turbocharger compressor comprises a compressor wheel 52 rotated by a drive-shaft 14, the compressor being provided with an intake passage 62 aligned with the shaft axis, the compressor wheel having radially extending vanes 48 thereon for moving air axially through the intake passage and impelling it radially outwardly transverse to the shaft axis, the vanes each having a frontal portion 47 extending radially beyond the adjoining vane portion, a wall 39 within the compressor defining two concentric collector chambers 41, 42, the intake passage 62 being formed by a tubular housing 63 terminating adjacent the radially extending front portion of the blades and aligned with the annular extension 39b of the wall 39, and a second intake 61 through which air is drawn and forced into the chamber 41 by the extended frontal portion 47a of the vanes 47 whilst the vanes 48 draw air from the intake passage 62 and force it into chamber 42. The flow of air through chamber 41 may be used to cool the air being forced through chamber 42 as claimed in Specification 1448252.
