Abstract
1448125 Dispersion-hardened alloys NIPPON TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE PUBLIC CORP 4 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972 22 Feb 1973] 56185/73 Headings C7A and C7D An Al-Al 2 O 3 or Al alloy - Al 2 O 3 composite containing 0.01-0.2 wt per cent Al 2 O 3 is formed from oxidized Al powder having a grain size of 40-100 microns by compacting the powder hydrostatically and sintering at 660-700 C for 0.5 to 1.5 hours. The resulting composite has a conductivity of 57-64% IACS. The powder (preferably atomized) may contain up to 1.6% Si, up to 0.28% Zr, up to 1% Ti, and up to 1.8% Mn, and may also contain small amounts of Fe, V, Cu. The sintering is carried out in vacuum, reducing gas, e.g. H 2 , or inert gas, e.g. Ar. The composite may be subsequently annealed.
