Abstract
1,145,799. Sintering of Be-Ag-Cu alloys. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS Ltd. May 25, 1967 [May 31, 1966], No.24405/67. Headings C7A and C7D. Be-Ag-Cu alloys are formed by compacting and liquid phase sintering a powder mixture of Be, Ag and Cu with a flux selected from the group of alkali or alkaline earth metal halides. The Ag and Cu may be added as a Ag/Cu alloy containing 72-92% Ag, balance Cu, or as the elemental powders and the preferred flux is a 1:1 mixture of LiF and LiCl in an amount of 0À5- 2% of the metal content. Sintering is effected at 1000 -1150 C. in an argon atmosphere, the sintered alloy containing 50-85% Be, 49-10À8% Ag and 14-0À3% Cu. The sintered alloy may be heat treated at 770 C. for 1-2 hours, quenched and precipitation hardened. Many examples of different alloy compositions are given.
