Abstract
1448158 Bituminous composition WOLFF & MULLER 11 Dec 1975 18917/74 Heading C3N A bituminous material for use in making surfaces for roads comprises a mixture of hard bitumen, defined as having a penetration no greater than 80 <SP>1</SP>/ 10 mm., and an additive comprising 40-50% by weight tar oils, 2-5% by weight naphthalene, 2-5% by weight anthracite, 1-2% by weight phenols, 3-8% by weight polyamines, the remainder being pitch or asphalt. The additive preferably comprises 50% by weight tar oil, 3% by weight naphthalene, 3% by weight anthracene, 1À5% by weight phenols, 5% by weight polyamines, and the remainder being pitch. The bitumen is preferably bitumen B45 or B60. The proportion by weight of the additive to bitumen may be 1 : 10. Preferably the additive comprises 10- 15% by weight of the material. A material for surfacing roads preferably comprises a mixture of crushed stone, sand, fillers and 7-8% by weight of the aforesaid bituminous material (9 parts bitumen B45 and 1 part additive). An ideal composition comprises, in parts by weight, 65 parts crushed gravel, 24 parts sand, 10 parts limestone, 1 part asbestos and 7À4-7À8 parts of the aforesaid bituminous material.
