Abstract

1447013 Centrifugal compressors INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO 19 Aug 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 36386/74 Heading F1C A rotary vaneless diffuser in a centrifugal compressor comprises a pair of coaxial annular discs 13 18 secured together by rods 19. The diffuser is freely mounted on the impeller shaft 12, e.g. by air bearings, so that it is rotated by the gas leaving the impeller and thereby reduces the boundary layer effects. A stationary vaned diffuser 23 may be provided in which case consequent adverse boundary layer effects may be reduced by suction or blowing techniques or by providing porous walls in the diffuser 23.
