Abstract
1444327 Buoyant structures SANDERS ASSOCIATES INC 29 May 1974 [29 May 1973] 23725/74 Heading E1H A buoyant platform e.g. a floating oil terminal, comprises a generally spherical body and is stabilized against roll and heave by displacing the centre of gravity below the spherical centre, the platform having a concrete hull 32 with a metal portion 34, and being divided into a plurality of cargo storage compartments 42, 39, operating areas 45, and machinery areas 46 in which are housed electric thrusters 49 and ballasting equipment 51- 55. Located on the platform 31 are a pilot house 64, howser equipment 61, 62 and a boom 58 for a hose 59 to transfer cargo from, e.g. a tanker to the platform. A column 56 houses an elevator. Concrete ballast is located in a compartment 37. In Fig. 6, not shown, a floating power plant 71 includes a reactor pressure vessel (78) and a heat exchanger (77). In Fig. 7 not shown the body (91) has a frusto-conical upper portion (92), with a cylindrical column (96), supporting a deck (97). The body of Fig. 8, not shown, has a deck (114) supported on a column (113) having a curved side wall which is tangent to the body (111) where they join.
