Abstract
1444065 Solid/liquid contact reciprocating mixing apparatus AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 27 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 28633/74 Headings B1C and B1F Apparatus for agitating specimens in a liquid or series of liquids comprises an open ended chamber 1, Fig. 5 with a closure 4 having a conical inside surface 5 and at least three circumferentially equidistant raised areas 6, a frusto-conical can 8 having circumferentially equidsistant recesses 10 e.g. formed by planar surfaces, to receive each of raised areas 6, one or more specimen holders 12, and drive means e.g. an electric motor, to rotate cam 8 and holders 12 thereby producing periodic reciprocal axial displacement of the holders 12 in liquid when in the chamber 1 through the combined action of the varied areas 6 and cam 8. Liquids can be sequentially introduced and withdrawn through the bottom of closure 4. Drive 'between the electric motor and the cam may be via drive shaft 17, Fig. 9, coupling 19, and driven shaft 11 which has flat surfaces to key with coupling 13.
