Abstract
1443663 Respirators VSESOJUZNY NAUCH-ISSLEDOVATEL INST GORNOSPASATELNOGO DELA 6 Feb 1974 5470/74 Heading A5T A respirator comprises a face piece 1 connected by a hose 2, in which a moisture exchange device 8 containing silica gel or material of similar porosity and adsorptiondesorption characteristics is located, to a regenerative cartridge 4 containing an oxygen regenerating chemical, the cartridge 4 being connected to a breathing bag 5. The bag 5 may be connected also to the hose 2 by an inhalation valve, an exhalation valve being disposed between the hose 2 and the cartridge thus providing a closed circuit apparatus. During exhalation moisture in the gas exhaled is condensed within the moisture exchange material so that less heat is generated in the cartridge during the oxygen regenerating process than would otherwise be the case. During inhalation the regenerated gas takes up moisture as it passes to the mask via the moisture exchange material.
