Abstract

1313766 Respiratory apparatus US DIVERS CO 12 March 1970 [14 March 1969] 12020/70 Heading A5T [Also in Division C1] An emergency oxygen supply system for use in an aircraft comprises sodium chlorate with added ferrous material 34, Fig. 3 with a cone 36 of material enriched for rapid ignition, a fibre glass insulating medium 40, a safety blowout disc 52, a check valve 60 to allow generated oxygen to pass along tube 64 to tube 20 which is long enough to reach mask 16 when mask 60 is drawn out of the apparatus for use. In use, cover 12 is removed, which pulls on lanyards 88 to pull a pair of trip release "Q" springs 92, Fig. 2, which in turn causes coiled springs 102 to make hammers 100 hit percus- sion caps 96, thus causing ignition of the sodium chlorate. A plenum bag 18, acts as a reservoir during use. To indicate if the apparatus has been tampered with, a plunger 82 is provided which projects into opening 86 if the lid is or has been removed.
