Abstract

1443591 Altitude compensated carburetter FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 3 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 00173/74 Heading F1B A carburetter has means to compensate for changes in air density by varying the cross-sectional area of the air inlet passage. A booster Venturi 19 has its downstream end at the minimum crosssectional area portion of the main Venturi 15. A bore 31 formed in the inlet passage wall is connected by passage 35 to outlet 37 which is downstream of the throttle valve 17 when the valve is in its closed position. Plunger 39 slides in the bore and is connected by bracket 55 to one end 53 of an aneroid capsule 49, the other end 51 of which abuts the carburetter body. As ambient air-pressure decreases or the temperature increases the capsule expands, so that the end of plunger 39, which normally projects into the air inlet passage, is retracted and allows an increase in the volume of air flowing through the passage. In the fully retracted position, air passes through a bore 41 and groove 43 in the plunger to passage 35 to prevent over-richness of the mixture when the engine is idling.
