Abstract

1331219 Regulating I. C. engine fuel supply ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 14 July 1972 [17 July 1971] 32950/72 Addition to 1330363 Heading F1B [Also in Division G1] In an I. C. engine electrically controlled, intermittent fuel injection system as claimed in the parent Specification, the baffle flap 30 of the air quantity meter is provided with a pneumatic damping device. As shown in Fig. 3, a damping vane 42 having a throttling bore 46 is attached to the spindle 41 of the baffle flap, and forms a damping chamber 45 with a portion of the wall of the engine intake manifold 25. In a modification, the chamber 45 is connected by a passage and a valve to the interior of the intake manifold downstream of the butterfly valve 28, the valve being controlled by the pressure in the intake manifold, Fig. 6 (not shown). The valve may alternatively be controlled in dependence upon temperature using a bi-metal strip or an element made of expansible material, Fig. 8 (not shown). In an alternative, Fig. 7 (not shown), the chamber 45 is connected to another chamber whose volume is increased when the butterfly valve 28 is opened. As shown in Fig. 4, the vane 42 divides a branch 51 of the intake manifold into two chambers, one of which communicates with the interior of the intake manifold upstream of the baffle flap 30 and the other of which is divided from the interior of the intake manifold downstream of the baffle flap via a bellows 55. The vane 42 may be provided with two pre-stressed flutter valves, one of which is closed against the pressure P2 and the other of which is closed against the pressure PA. In an alternative, Fig. 5 (not shown), a lever is attached to the flap spindle and is attached to a diaphragm which forms a chamber with another diaphragm subjected to the pressure in the intake manifold between the flap 30 and the butterfly valve 28. The first diaphragm is provided with a throttling bore to atmosphere. A flutter valve may also be provided and whose control characteristics may be temperature dependent.
