Abstract

1443367 Friction clutches AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 3 July 1974 [25 July 1973] 35413/73 Heading F2C In a diaphragm-spring friction clutch the diaphragm-spring 17 has an annular corrugation defining a groove 28 on one side and a rib 29 on the other, at the fulcrum for the spring, a reaction member in the form of clutch cover 12 having an annular surface 22 on one side of the corrugation, a further annular surface being on the opposite side of the corrugation and comprising a ring 32 as shown, which prevents a surface of convex cross-section which engages in the groove 28. The ring 32 is supported by tabs bent out from the radially inner edge of cover 12 and passing through apertures 27 of the spring 17, formed by enlarged radially outer ends of the slits between the spring fingers 25. Alternative embodiments can have the ring 32 omitted, the clutch cover having shaped surfaces (or a surface) to engage in the groove 28, or the ring 32 may be supported by rivets rather than the tabs shown, or the diaphragm spring may be on the outside of the cover 12 and engage the presser plate through projections of the plate which pass through apertures of the cover. The presser plate 14 shown rotates with the cover 12 through projections 18 engaged in apertures 19, but this arrangement may be replaced by flexible straps.
