Abstract

1442122 Photochlorination of xylenes HODOGAYA CHEMICAL CO Ltd 27 March 1975 [28 March 1974] 12847/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the production of chlorinated xylenes having chlorinated side chains wherein a xylene is placed in contact with chlorine at a temperature of 0‹ to 160‹ C. while being irradiated with radiation, characterized in that said radiation comprises light wave lengths of 380 to 500 mÁ in a dosage of not less than 0À5 W./m.<SP>2</SP> and the dosage of any light wavelengths shorter than 380 mÁ. in said radiation is at most 10% of the dosage of said light wavelengths of 380 to 500 mÁ. Preferably the radiation is from an indium lamp.
