Abstract
1441943 Electro-plating jig GLACIER METAL CO Ltd 4 March 1975 [5 Dec 1973] 56303/73 Heading C7B The inner arcuate surfaces 11 of a plurality of part-cylindrical bearing shells 10 are plated e.g. with Pb/Sn clamping the shells side-to-side in a jig, e.g. between insulating base 14 and metal end-plate 2 by a pair of rods 21 carrying nuts 22, without the components of the jig covering the edges 23 of the shells, and then locating in a plating bath 26 e.g. in socket 28. As shown, the edges 23 of the semicylindrical shells, aligned with faces 24 of the base 14 and plate 2 may rest, but are not clamped, against a wall 12 of box 17 having a slot 16. The base 14 and plate 2 may have notches 27 for locating a vertical plating electrode 13 in relation to the shells. The jig may include suspension 25 hung from an overhead rod (20), Fig. 2 (not shown). Two assemblies of half bearings may be clamped together in a circular array with a supported central anode. The shells may be of Cu/Pb or Al/Sn on a steel backing. Al/Sn is first plated with Zn alloy, then Ni, prior to Pb/Sn plating.
