Abstract

1440928 Wrapping device A SCHMEREND 25 Oct 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 53141/72 Heading B8C A folding device includes a guide member 204 which is fixed to a rotatable shaft 55/56, two pairs of mutually perpendicular rods 202 which are slidably mounted on the guide member 204 for rotation therewith, folder members 70 mounted on holders 201, 203 which connect the ends of the rods 202, a stationary continuous cam track, and a cam follower roller 205 mounted on one holder 203 of each pair of rods 202, the cam track being arranged so that during indexing of the guide member 204 between stations a, b, c, d, the folding members 70 are moved between operative extended positions at stations a and b and inoperative retracted positions at stations c and d. The folding members 70 are detachably connected to the holders 201, 203. Cells 21/22 are associated with the folding members 70 and are mounted on the shaft 55/56 for rotation therewith. In operation a web 63/64 is pressed into the cell 21/22 at station a by a plunger and a central portion of the U- folded web is folded by the extended folding member 70. The web is held in the cell by vacuum. The cell and folding member are then indexed to position b whereat a cigarette block is inserted into the cell. The remaining folds are carried out during indexing from station b to station c and at station c. The wrapped cigarette block is removed from the cell at station d. The arrangement for folding the web between stations b and c and at station c may be as described in Specification 1,440,923.
