Abstract

1338018 Delivering and feeding sheets HARRIS-INTERTYPE CORP 8 Nov 1971 [17 Dec 1970] 51798/71 Heading B8R Stacks of sheets 19, Fig. 1, to be delivered to a hopper 12 from which they are subsequently fed are placed by means of a pivoted and slidable carrier 12 on a belt conveyer 18 for passing to subsequent conveyers 23, 24, 25, the conveyer 24 sloping upwards so that the sheets fall back into overlapping relationship. Sheets are detected at various positions along the path by sensing means 26, 27, 28, and the height of the stack in the hopper is sensed by means 30. The sheets are continuously removed from the bottom of the hopper by means 42, Fig. 3, which separates the bottom sheet along a bottom plate 41 and below a front plate 40, while a member 43 supports the rest of the pile, and an electric control circuit is arranged so that when the stack is above a certain level the delivery is stopped, while when it is below that level, sheets are delivered in short bursts followed by a rest period. When a stack of sheets passes on to the conveyer 24, the next stack is held up by stopping of the conveyer 18 until the previous stack has cleared the switch 27. Receptacles; pile tables.-The hopper comprises end joggers 44 actuated by a cam rotating while the conveyer 25 is moving, to deliver the sheets on to the base-plate 41 and against the end plate 40. In another form, Fig. 7, the sheets pass on to the upper part 66 of side joggers 61 which move the sheets to the right in Fig. 7 (as viewed in feed direction), and end joggers 65 are operated out of phase with the joggers 61, so that the sheets are aligned against the front plate and a side plate 63. Air blasts are also intermittently directed through nozzles 95 in the joggers 61.
