Abstract

1337538 Electric incandescent lamp R C MARINACE 4 May 1972 [4 May 1971] 20871/72 Heading H1F [Also in Division H2] In a double-life light bulb, the base 19 comprises a screw threaded conductive member 20 housing an insulating member 22 which carries contacts 25 and 26, spaced apart and having an insulation piece 33 mounted between them and pivoted to be able to cover one or other contact. As shown, the piece 33 is bonded to upstanding portions 28, 29 of the contact 25, 26 which are of a malleable material to enable bending at the join. Filaments 17 and 18 are connected to a common lead 16 which is connected to the thread 20, and their other ends are connected via leads 14 and 15 to contacts 25 and 26 respectively. As shown in Fig. 1, contact 26 is exposed and filament 18 will light up when the lamp is in use, when the filament blows the flap formed by parts 28, 33 and 29 is turned through 180 degrees to expose contact 25 and enable filament 17 to be used. In a modification portions 28 and 29 are dispensed with, the insulation piece 33 being hinged in the slot between contacts 25 and 26.
