Abstract

1336562 Sleeve connectors POST OFFICE 9 Nov 1970 [13 Nov 1969] 55677/69 Addition to 1179715 Heading H2E A crimping clip for connecting two insulated wires comprises an insulating cover (2, Fig. 2, not shown) surrounding a trough-shaped member 1, of resilient metal, having a base 4, convex towards the open side of the trough, and sidewalls 5, 6 with piercings providing inwardly projecting tangs 20-23. The base has wireengaging means in the form of tongue portions 7, 8, which are bent towards embossments 9 on the side-walls, and upwardly projecting tangs 10-13 arranged in two longitudinal rows, tangs 11, 12 being shorter than tangs 10, 13. The transverse edges of the aperture formed on the bending upwards of portions 7, 8 form deflectable lips 18, 19. When the clip is crimped the wires are trapped between portions 7, 8 and lips 18, 19 and the insulating cover of the wire is torn. The tangs on the side-walls are staggered with respect to the tangs on the base and the tangs on the walls which co-operate with short tangs on the base are also short. Cruciform slits 41, 42 permit independent movement of tangs on the base in a direction perpendicular to the base. Triangular portions 14-17 bend upwards from the base and trap the wires when the clip is crimped. To hold the insulating cover (2) in position it is pressed through the holes left by the formation of the tangs, through two of the apertures left by portions 14-17 and through further holes 25, 26 provided in the sidewalls.
