Abstract

1336351 Lighting fitting PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 39624/71 Heading F4R A lighting fitting, e,g. for street lighting, for securing to the end of a pole 3, includes a sheetmetal trough 1 in which is received by spotwelding a sheet metal structure 2 for co-operating with the pole 3 wherein the ratio of the thickness of the sheet metal of the trough and structure 2 to the largest dimension of the trough lies between 1 : 250 and 1 ; 2500 and a corrosion-resistant layer is formed over the trough and spot-welded parts. Structure 2 comprises a single plate bent several times and with apertures to locate the pole 3 using screws 4. A metal plate 10 secured to a bridge 9 spotwelded to the trough supports the lampholder 11 on one side and supply apparatus 13 on the other side. A transparent hood 24 closes the lamp compartment 12 of the trough and is hinged to permit access to this compartment but cannot be removed from the fitting whilst lid 20 of the supply compartment 14 is in position. In a further embodiment, Figs. 5a and 5b (not shown), the structure permits location of the pole 3 from two perpendicular directions. The corrosion-resistant layer may be formed by lacquer painting or zinc-plating.
