Abstract

1336081 Cartons; making and filling cartons ALTSTADTER VERPACKUNG VERTRIEBS GmbH 21 Dec 1971 [11 Jan 1971 29 April 1971] 59391/71 Headings B8C and B8P A carton for liquids having a connecting seam (17) along its top has a spout 6 formed by a triangular flap 8 at one top edge and operable by means of a weakened tearing line 15 parallel to the connecting seam (17) and an inclined slot 18 formed in the strip 16 between the line 15 and the edge of the flap 5. Two inclined fold lines 19, 20 extending from the base of the slot 18 facilitate formation of the spout. The strip 16 on flap 5 projects above the strip (33) on flap 4 to which it is sealed. The slot 18 may be formed in both strips 16 and (33) in which case a short U-shaped weakened tearing line (32) or a weakened tearing line corresponding to line 15 is formed in the strip (33). The carton is of cardboard or paper and has an inner and/or outer plastics coating. If the carton has an outer plastics coating, a cut line (31) through the coating is provided in the flap 5 to facilitate removal of the coating with the strip 16. The carton is formed from the web shown in Fig. 3, the strips 16 and (33) being sealed together, the bottom edge of the lowermost carton sealed, the carton filled and the top edge sealed and severed from the adjacent carton.
