Abstract
1,161,423. Laminates. CARTONNERIES MODERNES ANCIENS ETS. ACHER, OMONT & DUBOSC and M. MIGEOT. 15 Aug., 1966 [17 Aug., 1965], No. 36391/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] A method of producing blanks of composite material for the manufacture of containers or tubes having sealed joints, comprises chamfering at least one edge 4 of a bearing sheet 2, e.g. of thin cardboard, applying to one side and the edge a sealing layer 5, e.g. of a polyethylene film or foil, and cutting the blanks from the material so as to leave intact the chamfered edge. The edge may be protected by a foil 5 as shown in Fig. 1 by extending the foil at 7 and folding it under the chamfered edge 4. A sealed joint is formed as shown in Fig. 2. In alternative methods, the foil maybe applied to both sides of the sheet 2 and the extensions 7 joined together, or the foil may be applied to a single side and the extension 7 left as in Fig. 1b In this event the sealed joint is formed as shown in Fig. 7. In further embodiments, the chamfered edge of the sheet 2 may be protected by a sealing layer which is separate from that applied to one or both sides of the sheet 2 and which is folded around the chamfered edge only. The sealing layer may alternatively consist of aluminium, or synthetic resin applied as a solution and the bearing sheet may alternatively be of paper, fabric or metal.
