Abstract
1333611 Blow moulding BELOIT CORP 6 Jan 1971 [15 Jan 1970] 669/71 Heading B5A Blow-moulding apparatus comprises an oven for heating a tubular parison, transfer means having a vertical axis to hold the parison in the oven and to move it therefrom vertically parallel to said axis, rotating the parison about said axis to the mould, means to stretch the heated parison and a mould closing around at least part of it. As shown in Figs. 1, 3, parisons 35 are fed from hopper 30 by motor 31 and shoots 34, 40, rotor 31 having grooves 32 each accommodating a parison and shoot 34 turning each parison into the vertical. Parisons are received on sticks (62, Fig. 5, not shown) of chain conveyer (50), are heated uniformly by oven 11 and are lifted therefrom, at discharge opening 16 by transfer mechanism 17. Mechanism 17, Fig. 8, comprises arm 80 carrying housing 120 and mounted on spindle 83 which is vertically slidable within and rotatable with tube 89 inside fixed outer tube 90. Housing 120 contains piston head 123 lowered by pneumatic fluid from duct 125 against spring 124 to close pivoted jaws 131 to engage parisons in the oven. Arm 80 is raised to abut stop 110 the parison there being cooled by fingers 15 pivoted over open mould 19 and lowered thereinto. Neck mould parts 164, 165, Fig. 14, are closed around the parison by curved toggle levers (168, 189, Fig. 13, not shown), nozzle plug 180 raised to mould the threaded neck area and arm 80 raised to stretch the parison, the arm 80 abutting stop 110 in its lowered position 110<SP>1</SP>. Mould halves 19 are closed and the parison cut thereby. The mould halves 19 are connected by rods 154, Fig. 2, to carriers 142, movable on rods 141 and pivoted to curved toggle levers 144. A projection (150, Fig. 11, not shown) having abutment surfaces (151, 152) engage surfaces (148, 149) on disc 146 to which the other ends of levers 144 are pivoted, disc 146 being rotated between the end positions defined thereby to open and close the mould halves 19. Neck mould halves. 164, 166 are similarly operated. After mould closure, mechanism 17 is raised to abut stop 110 at its full height, and the scrap portion held thereby is deposited into shoot 20, arm 80 continuing into position to receive a further parison. Air is meanwhile fed from nozzle 180 to blow-mould the parison, and after mould opening, the bottle 159 formed is blown upwardly into delivery tube 203. Tube 203 is carried by an arm 204 which is automatically moved from over the mould 19 by cam mechanism, &c. as arm 80 is moved over it.
