Abstract

1332179 Head treating alloys UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 24 Sept 1970 [ 26 Sept 1969] 45564/70 Heading C7A Super alloys capable of precipitating a Y phase forming at room temperature more than 25% of the structure, and also of precipitating a topologically close-packed phase, particularly # - phase, is heat-treated at a temperature above that at which the TCP phase precipitates, to precipitate y' phase at an interparticle spacing not exceeding 5 micron such that it forms at least 25% of the structure. The alloy is then worked to give at least 15% reduction in area, and finally heat treated at a temperature not exceeding that of working to precipitate globular particles of TCP and any remaining γ'. The process is applicable to treatment of N c , C o , or F e alloys.
