Abstract
1,236,598. Heat-treating steel sheet; alloys. RICHARD THOMAS & BALDWINS Ltd. March 27, 1969 [April 2, 1968], No. 15855/68. Heading C7A. [Also in Divisions B3] Deep-drawing steel containing 0À01% to 0À1% carbon, 0 to 0À5% manganese, and 0À02% to 0À5% niobium is solution-treated at 900‹ to 1400‹ C., treated to precipitate niobium carbide as particles not exceeding 2000 Angstroms in average size, cold rolled and annealed. The desired particle size may be achieved by control of the cooling conditions after hot rolling (e.g. by finishing at 800‹-1000‹C., coiling at 400‹-800‹C. and cooling in the coil) or by cooling from the rolling temperature at such a rate that niobium carbide is retained in solution followed by reheating e.g. to 600‹ to 950‹C.
