Abstract

1324660 Packages; portable containers SPRINTER PACK AB 15 Sept 1970 [30 Sept 1969] 44083/70 Headings B8C and B8D A carbonated beer-filled sealed container comprises a nestable thin-walled frusto-conical plastics body 10 having an open upper end closed by a seamed-on metal lid 11 provided with a tear-out tongue section 12 and a closed bottom end 18, which assumes a domed partsperical shape in the sealed and filled condition but which has a central portion 20, which, on release of the gas pressure in the container on removal of the tongue section, can be returned to, or automatically returns to its initially inwardly bulged configuration. The central portion is defined by a deformation 20a. Movement of the central portion to the inwardly bulged configuration on opening of the lid forms an annular rim by which the open container may be stood upright on a support surface whilst the outward movement of said portion from its initially inwardly bulged configuration due to the creation of gas pressure in the filled and sealed container forms a head space to relieve the pressure on the walls and permits initial filling of the container body to its upper rim. The container may have a side wall shoulder 15, Fig. 3 (not shown), or a top flange, Fig. 4 (not shown), by which it may be supported in a support sleeve during filling or in drinking cup 17 after filling. The container body may be of P.V.C. coated with a gas barrier layer of PVdC.
