1329936 Hinge for oven door UNITED FILTRATION CORP 28 March 1972 14353/72 Heading E2F A hinge for an oven door comprises an elongated casing 1 adapted to be mounted on a frame of the oven, and an arm 2 connected to the casing by a pivot 3 to rotate about a horizontal axis and adapted to be received in a socket 6 on the door 7, with means including a compression spring 36 urging the arm 2 towards the closed position, Fig. 3 (not shown), and a latch movable between an operative position when the door is removed from the arm in which it interferes with the rotation of the arm to retain it in a partially open position, Fig. 2, and an inoperative position when the door is installed in which it does not so interfere. Thus the hinge cannot snap to its closed position when the door is removed for cleaning or while the hinge is being installed. When the door is in position its weight is counterbalanced by the spring 36, and when it is moved to the partially open position, which may be used for broiling, cam roller 44 engages detents 50 to hold the door. Also in this position cam roller 45 moves a further latch 23 from a position (Fig. 1) in which it engages an aperture in the door to a position (Fig. 2) in which it allows the door to be removed. The latch preventing the hinge closing may be a bar 54 carried by a spring 61 and movable by the door from a position in which it engages a locking land 56 on pivot bracket 24 to one where it may enter a slot 57. Alternatively, Figs. 7-9 (not shown) the door may rotate a pivotally mounted bar (63) so that it does not engage a land (71) on the bracket 24; or the door may cause a bar (73), Figs. 10-13 (not shown) which is urged by a spring (82) into a slot (76) in the bracket 24, to be removed therefrom.
