Abstract
1328955 Labelling J GRASMANN 15 Jan 1971 [16 Jan 1970] 2134/71 Heading B8F [Also in Division B6] A labelling device comprises printing mechanism 20 including a plurality of type bands 23 mounted on rollers 21, 22 for rotation about an axis 24 to print on a label strip 5 comprising labels 7 and a backing strip 6, and a press-on roller 7 which rotates at peripheral speed equal to that of the selected type characters through the print station. The labels are applied to articles by rolling the roller 17 whereby the printing mechanism 20 is also rotated through coupling gears (35-37, Fig. 3), the initial half rotation being against a spring (40, Figs. 2, 3) which then assists rotation to cause impression in the position shown. An inking roller 26 is provided. Two sets of type bands (54, Fig. 6) may be mounted on a common eccentric axis (50). The label strip is advanced intermittently by a dog 27 on the printing mechanism 20 engaging projections 28 on a backing roller 14. Projections 31 on the backing roller 14 engage edge incisions in the label tape to ensure alignment.
