Abstract
1328310 Producing aluminium by fusion electrolysis SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 30 Nov 1971 [1 Dec 1970] 55587/71 Heading C7B An electrolytic cell for production of Al in a molten F bath with pre-baked C anodes is operated by maintaining an interpolar distance of 5 to 6 cms, an Al 2 O 3 covering 14 to 16 cms thick on all the encrusted surface of the bath, and an anode current density such that as much heat is produced in the cell as it can carry away as losses, after deducting the heat employed in the decomposition of the Al 2 O 3 and heating of the raw materials, while the electrolyte temperature lies between 940‹ and 975‹C.
