Abstract

1328074 Primary amines RUHRCHEMIE AG 24 Sept 1971 [3 Oct 1970] 44703/71 Heading C2C A process for the production of a primary amine comprises reacting a compound containing a carbonyl group with ammonia at a temperature of from 15‹ to 80‹ C., separating the water formed during the reaction and hydrogenating the resulting reaction product under elevated pressure in the presence of ammonia and a catalyst. The reaction is suitably carried out in the presence of an inert solvent, e.g. a hydrocarbon, at an elevated or atmospheric pressure using a mole ratio of carbonyl compound to ammonia of between 1 : 1À3 and 1 : 1À8. Examples describe the conversion of isononylaldehyde and butyraldehyde to the corresponding primary amines.
