Abstract

1,245,593. Formaldehyde. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 June, 1969 [4 July, 1968], No. 31927/68. Heading C2C. Formaldehyde is produced by a catalytic process of dehydrogenation and oxidation of methanol, using as feed for the process the vaporized crude product of methanol synthesis from synthesis gas containing CO 2 over a Cucontaining catalyst, e.g. by passing the methanol with air over a silver catalyst. The methanol synthesis is preferably performed at 30-120 atmospheres, 190-270‹ C. and a space velocity of 7000 to 25,000 hour<SP>-1</SP>.
