Abstract

1326121 Hair curling tongs D C SATCHELL 7 June 1972 [9 June 1971] 19562/71 Heading A4V An electrical hair curling apparatus comprises a tong portion, and an energy source fitted to the portion to supply energy to a heater for heating the portion. The energy source shown is a rechargeable electric cell comprising inner and outer lead electrodes 10, 11 with an insulating insert 12 and electrolyte 13. One end of the heater 9 is connected to the wall 5 of the tong portion 1, and the other end to a cap 7 separated from the wall 5 by an insulating insert 8. The cell has plastics sheathing 14 and spring contacts 2, 15 so that when the tong portion is inserted in the cell as a handle, as shown, the heater is energized and the tong portion retained. When not in use, the tong portion is reversed, covered with an insulating cover, and retained in the cell by spring 18 and groove 19. The protruding part of the tong portion may then be covered by a cup (not shown) which may house a transformer and rectifier for recharging the cell.
