Abstract
1325703 Diaphragm actuators A V M CORP 21 Oct 1970 [9 Feb 1970] 49881/70 Heading F1D A three-position dual diaphragm actuator 20 comprises a housing 34 divided in three chambers 54, 58, 62 by diaphragms 30, 32. Plates 70, 72 and 76, 78 are attached to either side of diaphragms 32, 30. The facing plates 76 has a hook member 98 and eye member 100 which respectively engages an eye member 100<SP>1</SP> and hook member 98<SP>1</SP> of the facing plate 72. The hooks and eyes serve to limit the distance by which the diaphragms may be separated and can also be used to limit how close together they come. Attached to diaphragm 32 is an operating rod 24 for moving some element such as a valve member. Vacuum connections 52, 56 lead to chambers 54, 58 and chamber 62 is open to the atmosphere via an aperture 64 in housing 34. Spring 110 acts between the diaphragms and spring 112 between diaphragm 30 and housing 34. When pressure is atmospheric in all chambers, springs 110, 112 urge the rod to its fully extended position, Fig.1. If vacuum is applied to chamber 58, spring 112 collapses and rod 24 is slightly retracted to an intermediate position Fig.2 (not shown). On both chambers 54, 58 being evacuated, springs 110 and 112 collapse and rod 24 moves to its fully retracted position Fig.3 (not shown).
