1325270 Car driving simulator SODERY SA 18 Oct 1971 [20 Oct 1970] 48307/71 Heading B7H A car driving simulator includes a steering wheel 2, a gear lever 8 or 9, accelerator, brake and clutch pedals 5, 6, 7 and a screen 11 on which animated images are projected by a cinematographic projector (not shown), the steering wheel 2 being coupled to the projector so that the image on the screen 11 moves to the left or right in response to movements of the steering wheel 2, and includes a control device which controls the speed of the projector in accordance with movements of the gear lever 8 or 9 and accelerator 5. The control device also controls a drive motor for the speedometer 4 and a noise making device simulating engine noise, the speedometer 4 and noise making device being driven in accordance with the simulated road and engine speed as determined by the position of the gear lever 8 or 9 and accelerator pedal 5. The control device will also stop the projector and noise making device to simulate a stalled engine under the following conditions : (a) if the clutch pedal 7 is raised too quickly during gear changing, (b) if the brake pedal 6 is depressed for too long without declutching or (c) if, after stopping with a high gear engaged, the operator attempts to start without changing down to first gear. The projector is mounted for pivoting movement about a vertical axis and the light beam is reflected on to the screen 11 via a fixed mirror. Alternatively the projector may be fixed and the mirror mounted for rotation. The choice between the floor mounted gear lever 8 and column mounted lever 9 is determined by a selector switch on the dashboard 3.
