1323261 Article carriers CLOVER CAN CO Ltd 4 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1971 5 March 1971] 3949/71 and 6129/71 Heading A4G [Also in Divisions B8 and E2] A bail handle for detachable-fastening to opposed rivet projections on a paint can comprises a strip 10 having a keyhole aperture 15 at each end, each aperture comprising a large diameter portion 16 to permit the passage of a rivet head and a smaller diameter portion 24, which is joined to the larger diameter portion for the reception of the shank of the rivet and which has its edge defined by a circle or the major part of a circle so that the rivet shank is pivotally retained once the shank has been forced therein. The apertures, as shown, are formed, in recessed thickened end portions 12 of a flexible moulded polyethylene or polypropylene strip, and each rivet shank is retained in the small diameter portions by projections 20, 22 which are defined by the junction of small diameter portion edge and an intermediate connecting slot 18. The strip is provided with stiffening ribs 26, 28, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). In a modification, Figs.6-11 (not shown), the end portions of the strip are provided with elongated recesses 41, and the intermediate connecting aperture portion 48 is part-circular. In another embodiment, Fig.12 (not shown), the apertures 62 are punched in a plastics strip 60 and the intermediate connecting slot portions 68 of the apertures may be replaced by a slit. In a final embodiment Fig.13 and 14 (not shown), the handle is formed by a hemmed tinplate strip. The handle may be constructed of relatively rigid material for use with resilient plastics rivets.
