Abstract

1322011 Latticework bridges MABEY & JOHNSON Ltd 26 April 1971 [11 March 1970] 11696/70 Heading E1G [Also in Division B3] A latticework panel of rolled steel sections 1, 3 for a Bailey bridge is provided with a male eye lug A-B formed as two similar steel half-forgings which are welded back to back at their outer ends after their inner ends have been welded individually to the two parallel sections 1, the same strength steel being used for the sections and half-lugs. Each half-lug, Fig. 1 (not shown) is forged with (a) a slot and taper to reduce weight; (b) a blind conical hole (4); and (c) a raised pad (2). After welding together the holes are drilled through to form the eye 4 and the pads are machined to form a seating 2-2 for welding on a channel 3. The male eye lug cooperates with a female eye lug (not shown) on the adjacent bridge panel.
