Abstract
1321305 Laminated products CUPRO SAPPHIRE Ltd and TAUNTON VALE INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 May 1971 [13 May 1970] 23162/70 Heading B5N Laminates comprising plastics material are prepared by forming a stack of assembled layers of the materials to be laminated and metal cauls separating the assemblies, heating the stack by applying an electric current directly to some of the cauls and applying pressure to the stack. The laminate may comprise melamine resin impregnated papers bonded to each other or sandwiching a core of hardboard, chipboard, plywood or phenolic resin impregnated paper and may be curved or planar. The cauls may be of stainless steel with a copper foil edging and have brass contact bars at their edges to enable adjacent or non-adjacent cauls to be joined by a flexible woven copper connector, the ends of which have been dipped in molten solder. The stack may be placed between the jaws of a press. After lamination by heat and pressure, the stack is allowed to cool, removed from the press and the laminates and cauls separated ready for reuse of the cauls.
