Abstract

1,259,885. Embossing. ISOVOLTA OESTERREICHISCHES ISOLIERSTOFFWERK K.G. H. TURNAUER & CO. 5 Aug., 1969 [6 Aug., 1968], No. 39198/69. Heading B6J. A laminate of resin-impregnated paper is provided with embossed impressions by a pressing operation using as a die a thermoplastic sheet having the desired surface structure on one or both surfaces. An assembly pressed between heated plates comprises outer thermoplastic sheets with the design on their inner surfaces, and between them a plurality of alternating laminates and thermoplastic sheets with the design on both surfaces. Metal foils, e.g. aluminium or copper, may be interposed between the laminates and the thermoplastic sheets, which may be polypropylene or cellulose acetate. The thermoplastic sheets are impressed with the design by pressing between heated plates in contact with one or two sheets having the surface texture to be reproduced.
