Abstract

1320003 Double panel units SITELINES Inc 1 July 1970 [1 July 1969] 31985/70 Heading E1R A hermetically sealed double panel unit e.g. a double glazed unit comprises a closed frame made up of joined frame elements 13 provided with spaced inwardly directed glazing fins 21 which are also joined at the corners of the frame and panes 14a, 14b secured to the respective fins by glazing gaskets 16 of the type provided with a channel for the pane and one for the supporting fin and a locking strip 17 forced into a groove in the strip to press the channel sides into sealing contact with the panes and fins, a bead 24 of sealant engaging the outer faces of the fins 21 and adhering to the gaskets 16 and to the frame elements 13 to cover and hermetically seal each of the joints between adjacent fins, beads 23 of sealant covering and sealing the portion of each of the joints of the joined frame elements and the fins exposed within the air space between the panes, the sealant 24 and the sealant 23 being joined by sealant passing through passage ways 25 in the fins locked adjacent the joints which form sides of the passage way. Inlet and outlet ports with hermetically sealable closures such as 42 enable desiccant materials to be charged and discharged from one or more chambers formed between an apertured pan 31, retainer 36, and the adjacent side of the frame 13.
