1320042 Printing apparatus RICOH KK 4 Aug 1970 [13 Sept 1969] 37454/70 Heading B6C A manual control apparatus, which can be used to control an offset printing machine, comprises an angularly displaceable handle 4, which can be displaced into a plurality of discrete, e.g. click-stopped, positions 4A-4D, a slidable member 18 on the handle, at least one cam 21 or 22 and a coupling means 15 which is pivoted by the member 18 and makes a separable connection between the handle and the or each cam. Preferably there are two cams 21, 22, with slots 21a, 22a which, receive an end 15b of the coupling means, and the cams are spring-biased against a stop. The slots 21a, 22a are so shaped that when the end 15b is in a lower position it moves along their length when the handle 4 is moved, and no rotation of the cams occurs unless an end of the slot is reached, but if the member 18 is depressed and the end 15b in consequence raised, the end enters shaped recesses in the upper surfaces of the slots and, depending on the shapes of the recesses, may cause one or other of the cams 21, 22 to rotate with the handle 4. An offset printing machine may be arranged to have master plate feed means supplying a new master to plate cylinder 1 actuated by the cam 22 when it is linked to the handle 4 by depression of the member 18 and the handle is in its position 4A. Alternatively, the member 18 may be left undepressed, so that no rotation of the cam 22 occurs, and the new master plate may be applied manually. In either case movement of the handle 4 to positions 4B and 4C initiate etching of the new plate and inking and feeding of copy sheets, and the member 18 returns to its raised position before such movement is possible. After a printing run, the handle 4 is returned to its initial position, then be moved to position 4D to move cam 21 and initiate removal of the master plate and cleaning of blanket cylinder 2.
