Abstract

1,196,219. Printing apparatus. MATH, BAUERLE G.m.b.H. 18 Dec., 1968 [23 Jan.. 1968], No. 60243/68. Heading B6C. Apparatus for washing the blanket cylinder of a rotary offset printing machine comprises a rubber-surfaced wash roller, a container for washing liquid and means for bodily pivoting the roller against the blanket cylinder, for pressing the roller against the blanket cylinder, for rotating the roller in the same direction as the blanket cylinder and for causing the roller to be reciprocated axially. Wash roller 4 is brought into contact with blanket cylinder 3 by spring- urged movement of roller 4 and container 1 about axis 1a and gear-wheel 17, which is mounted on an end of roller 4, engages driving gear 18 before roller 4 contacts cylinder 3, so that roller 4 is rotating and covered with washing liquid before washing begins. Movement of container 1 and roller 4 is controlled by a limitedrotation cam with a spring-loaded guard, which uncovers recessed surfaces on the cam to a follower when the cam is moved in one direction, but not when it is returned. The cam is actuated by a control handle of the printing machine, so that washing of the blanket cylinder occurs as the handle is moved to stop printing.
