Abstract
1319913 Cermet alloys; powder metallurgy WALL COLMONOY CORP 15 Sept 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 43088/71 Headings C7A and C7D A particulate mixture, for heating to form a cermet alloy, comprises:-Al 2 O 3 , 1-8% by wt. of the mixture, sufficient B and Ti and/or Zr to exothermically react to form 2-40% by wt. of the final alloy of Ti and/or Zr borides and 52- 97 per cent of matrix metals comprising 10À60% by wt. thereof of Cu together with Ni and or Co and optional additions of up to 5% Fe and up to 1% Mn. The mixture may optionally contain up to 10% TiN. The particle size of the Al 2 O 3 is preferably 2-20 microns and of the metals 20-500 microns and at least some of the matrix metals and reactive constituents may be present in the mixture in pre-alloyed form. The mixture may be bound to a surface, with an organic binder, or placed in a mould, prior to heating to give a coating or a shaped article by at least partial fusion of the metallic constituents. The production of controlled or varying thicknesses of coating is disclosed.
