Abstract
1319004 Ethylene oxide NIPPON SHOKUBAI KAGAKU KOGYO CO Ltd 13 July 1971 32876/71 Heading C2C Ethylene oxide is prepared by the vapour phase oxidation of ethylene with molecular oxygen in the presence of a silver catalyst, the vapour mixture being passed through a carbon steel tube containing the catalyst and having on its inner surface a coating of a nickel-phosphorus alloy formed by non-electrolytic plating. Preferably the coating is formed by filling the carbon steel tube with an aqeuous solution of (a) a soluble hypophosphite, (b) a soluble nickel salt, (c) an alkali metal salt of a fatty acid and (d) an alkanolamine and heating between 90‹ C. and the boiling-point of the solution.
