Abstract

1,217,309. Electroless plating. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. Aug. 5, 1969 [Aug. 26, 1968], No. 39069/69. Heading C7F. An electroless nickel plating bath (pH 3À3 to 6À8) comprises a nickel salt, e.g. sulphate or chloride, an alkali metal hypophosphite, a buffer, and an alkali metal lignosulphonate. The Ni: hypophosphite ion ratio is 0À25 to 1À60. The buffer may be a salt of an aliphatic mono- or dicarboxylic acid, e.g. acetic, butyric, propionic, malonic, succinic or glutaric acids or nitrilotriacetic or ethylene diamine tetracetic acids. The bath temperature may be 120 to 210‹ F. The substrate may be metal, plastics wood, rubber or ceramics.
