Abstract

1318153 Burning noxious vapours; heating gases for drying GRANCO EQUIPMENT Inc 16 July 1971 [29 July 1970 8 Jan 1971 (2)] Headings F4B F4G and F4S A fume incinerator comprises an elongated combustion chamber, a mixture of fumes and air passing over the outer surface of the combustion chamber, and being supplied to the combustion chamber at an increased pressure to burn therein. In a fume incinerator mounted in a casing 16 above a drying oven 12, fumes pass into a chamber 25 at one end of the casing, and through a U-shaped casing 30 surrounding a U-shaped combustion chamber. A fan 32 in a chamber 25a forces the preheated fumes into one straight limb 40 of the combustion chamber at an elevated pressure, and the fumes burn in the chamber after ignition by a burner 38 before passing out to the stack 50. The straight limbs 40, 46 of the combustion chamber are formed of panels 62 with flanges 64, Fig. 3, secured together with fin members between them. The outer fins 76 space the combustion chamber from the shell 30. Recirculation of the burnt gases may be provided through holes 82 in the second straight limb 46 of the combustion chamber. The combustion chamber is of light metal, and any buckling of its walls increases the turbulence of the gases. Leakage between the panels 62 increases the recirculation. Part of the atmosphere of the oven may be recirculated over the outside of casing 30, past a trim burner through a fan to the oven. The elongated combustion chamber may be of annular form, with preheat chambers within as well as outside it.
