Abstract

1361268 Smokeless refuse incinerator PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 7 Oct 1971 [8 Oct 1970] 46790/71 Heading F4B A two-stage refuse incinerator comprises a vaporizing chamber 1 wherein a fuel burner 5 is directed down onto waste material 7 to vaporize, and, with primary combustion air 6, partially combust the waste material, and a combustion chamber 9 wherein gases leaving the vaporizing chamber 1 via conduit 8 are fully burnt by fuel from a burner 12 and secondary excess air 13. The combustion chamber 9 may be situated at the base of an exhaust stack with the burner 12 directed vertically upwards, see Fig. 1 (not shown). The vaporizing chamber may be formed by a trench formed in the gound and covered by a metal and/or ceramic structure having air conduits formed in its walls through which the combustion air may be circulated to cool the structure and preheat the air.
