Abstract

1316614 Electro-photography XEROX CORP 27 Oct 1970 [29 Oct 1969] 51012/70 Heading G2H A charge image on a rotary drum is passed through an extended zone containing toner/carrier developer, the extended zone being divided into a plurality of narrow parallel zones, each containing a vane member which oscillates relatively with respect thereto, thereby causing circulation or spiral flow of developer within each narrow zone. In an example of spiral flow, Figs. 2-4, the narrow zones extend parallel to the direction of movement of the drum, are formed by an underplate 13 and a plurality of channel members 14, and each contain a vane member 20. The channel structure and vanes oscillate out of phase. The channel structure or vanes may form a development electrode. The developer flows by gravity and is recycled by an augur. In an example of circulation Fig. 5 (not shown), the narrow zones extend perpendicularly to the direction of movement of the drum in open communication with a sump, are separated from one another by screen members 46, and each contain an oscillating electrode vane insulated from a further electrode member.
