Abstract
1315205 Injection blow moulding S FISCHER 5 May 1970 [8 May 1969 21 July 1969] 21507/70 Heading B5A In an injection-blow-moulding process, the injection mould and core are both cooled so that the preform is dimensionally stable for transfer to the blow-mould, the preform undergoing temperature-equalization before blow-moulding by means of heat-exchange devices so that material within the preform cools by heat transfer to the surfaces thereof until the required temperature distribution in the preform for blowmoulding is achieved. As shown in Fig. 2, preform 27 is formed in cooled injection mould 22 on a cooled core (not shown) carried by plate 24. After cooling, core plate 24 is retracted by jack 26 and the preform 27 drops through shoot 30 and is guided on to one of a number of mandrels 32 on turntable 33. Preform 27 is conveyed through heating and cooling apparatus 34 to between blow mould halves 35, after closing of which, mandrel 32 co-operates with device 37 to act as a blowing mandrel. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) for use with P.V.C., the composition is preheated by passing it through a constriction (43) into the cooled injection mould (42), and after stripping from the injection core, the preform is pushed by rod (47) into the shoot (48).
