Abstract
1313834 Refuse vehicles SHEFFLEX Ltd 25 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 5495/71 Heading B8E In a refuse vehicle with mechanical loading means and a compacting plate 28, Fig. 2, the pivot axis 30 of the plate is outside the loadcarrying body. As described two loading mechanisms and two plates are provided. To raise the loading platform 16, Fig. 1, a ram 34, Fig. 2, is contracted and this lifts the platform through cables 48 which pass over pulleys 42, 52, 54. Contraction of the ram also swings the compacting plate upwardly clear of its working aperture so that the contents of the bin may be tipped therethrough. As the bin rises it abuts a pivoted plate 20 with a closure flap 22 which guides the bin in its tipping movement. Extension of the ram 34 after the bin has been tipped swings the compacting plate downwards through links 40, 44. The platform 16 is returned by gravity and springs, not shown. The springs also assist in opening a rear-door 12 of the vehicle which swings upwards on hinges 14 when the body is tipped to discharge the refuse. Separate rams, provided with inlocks, may be provided for raising the bins and operating the compacting plate and links rather than cables and pulleys may be used..
